Socio-cultural and Literary Activities

During the conference of the Cachar Banga Sahitya O Sanskriti Sammelan (later re-christened by replacement of the word ‘Cachar’ by ‘Barak Upatyaka’), held on 8 and 9 January, 1977 in the District Library auditorium of Silchar, it was resolved that the organization (hereinafter mentioned as ‘Sammelan’) would always try to promote all – round developments of the Bengali language, culture and literature of the district of Cachar (hereinafter mentioned as ‘Barak Valley’). This objective finds mention in the constitution, which was drafted and adopted later. Keeping this objective in view, the Sammelan has been working consistently with sincerity and dedication for promoting researches in, and augmenting all-round developments of, the Bengali language, literature and culture of this region. Major efforts and key developments in these fields may be summed up here in a nutshell.
