Silchar under water, storm-water drainage scheme abandoned
In the absence of a modern drainage facility, the nearly-3.5 lakh populace of Silchar is facing the worst ever waterlogging problem to have affected this second largest town of Assam.
Sources said a Rs 170.77-crore storm-water drainage scheme, the first of its kind in Assam, which was launched here in 2007, has failed to take off even five years later.
But the scheme derailed after the NBCC abandoned the project alleging non-cooperation on the part of the state government. Details here
